Allison Gocotano, MD

I first met Dr. Jaime Z. Galvez Tan (Doc Jimmy) as one of my professors at the University of the Philippines College of Medicine. While the focus of our studies was the clinical aspect, Doc Jimmy was one of the few who exposed us to the vast responsibilities of a healthcare provider which transcends the four walls of a clinic. Indeed, it was he who guided us that it was the healthcare provider who created the confines of a clinic and not the other way around, thus provision of services to far flung areas could greatly be improved through first having such a mindset.

I have had the privilege of working with Doc Jimmy for four years now, from graduation up to present. Throughout the years I have been exposed to numerous mentoring opportunities
which are not necessarily formalized sessions but rather through simple exchange of
insights while walking and moving from one meeting to the next. It is with confidence to say that I am quite familiar with the range of Doc Jimmy’s expertise and of his unparalleled passion towards improving public health in the Philippines
